Zeeuwse Knoop, Jewel from 'Zeeland'.

Hooray it's Blogger's Quilt Festival!

This is the first time I join. And I want to show you my quilt 'Zeeuwse Knoop'

I made this quilt for my brother and my sister in law. It was my present when they married.
They live in a part of the Netherlands called Zeeland (Sealand). My great grandparents had the same names as they have; Gideon and Johanna.

My brother and sister in law loves Zeeland very much. And Johanna loves to wear specific jewels from Zeeland. I made this quilt with this jewel in mind. Its called Zeeuwse Knoop/ Knot.

I used antique fabric from clothes from Zeeland. That's the grey/ blue stripe. I also used a seahouses print from Michael Miller ('my place or yours' in denim) and searched for fabric matching with those two. I tried to vary in less and more saturated prints to create contrast in the rings.

This is my second quilt and the first time I pieced with the machine. For the little white circels I used fusible web. The whole 'Knot' is handsewn on the background fabric (needleturn).
It was also the first time I quilted with machine; the circels and waves in the background. I handquilted the little bows around the white knots.

For the back I used scraps from all the fabric I used and the binding is the same as the background dot.
